Letters to a Young Poet

BOOK DESIGN

This iteration of “Letters to a Young Poe”t by Rainer Maria Rilke explores something I find endlessly fascinating: the tension between design done out of obligation and design done out of genuine passion. It’s also a nod to a cycle most designers will recognize, the pull toward underdoing it, then overcorrecting, then finally landing somewhere in the middle.

Design Process

The process was deliberately layered, consisting of photographing tools, printing those photos, scanning them back in, and working through many blend modes in InDesign. I wanted to capture a hand-crafted feel without letting it take over the whole design, which is where the subtle pixelation comes in.
