Bass-Face
PACKAGING, BRANDING
Bass-Face is a music modification brand that supplies musicians with the tools to customise their sound. This kit consists of two hex keys to adjust the truss rod and bridge saddles, wire clippers to trim new strings after they’re installed, and a new set of strings. A customer would order this kit from the Bass-face website and pick the type of strings they want with their kit. Customers could also set up a subscription to receive new strings in the mail on a schedule that works for them.
Design Process
My goal with this product was to create a jazz/rock-inspired system that showcases a series of “bass-faces,” which is a reference to the stank face many musicians make when in a groove. As someone with a deep appreciation for jazz-rooted rock bands, I knew I wanted to reflect that through the imagery and colors, drawing inspiration from groups like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. The imagery is rougher and more gravelly, representing the outright “rock” essence, while the colors originate from traditional jazz album covers.
Package Process
The construction of this project was a fun challenge for me. I wanted to create something with motion, something that felt high-end and worth keeping (like the box your phone came in that you don’t want to part with because it feels too nice). The box opens upwards, and the side compartments flip open to reveal the housed products. Pull tabs are located near each product (with the exception of a detailed information sheet about the strings) to provide the user with more information about the tools’ use.
